Hillsborough Conservation District Overview
Hillsborough Soil and Water Conservation District is a Florida Special District, organized under Florida Statutes Title XXXV, Chapter 582, with a geo-political boundary matching that of Hillsborough County. The mission of the "Conservation District" is to support the agricultural base of Hillsborough County and adjoining areas, with a focus on the sound management and long-term sustainability of soil characteristics and water quality associated with rural, working lands. The Conservation District's management is overseen by a board of five locally elected "Supervisors".
Although the main emphasis of the Conservation District's mission is on sponsoring agricultural water quality projects and adoption of Agricultural Best Management Practices for soil and other natural resource values, its activities also include outreach and education to the general public. The Conservation District works through inter-local agreements, Federal and State contracts, grants, and donations to deliver technical assistance, project funds and its outreach programs. In addition to those other sources, the Conservation District gratefully enjoys administrative and financial support from the Hillsborough County Board of County Commissioners.
